Time for Lime, a Cooking School Popular with Tourists on Thailand’s Koh Lanta Island, Bounces Back from Tsunami Time for Lime is a beach-front boutique resort featuring a cooking school where tourists learn to cook Thai food. Located on Koh Lanta Island, which wasn't as hard hit by the Dec. 26 tsunami as most other areas, the resort expects to be in full operation by February 1. Information about Time for Lime, its cooking classes, and more is available at www.timeforlime.net.
Koh Lanta, Thailand January 19, 2005 -- Time for Lime, a boutique resort and cooking school for tourists located on beautiful, white-sand Klong Dao Beach on Thailand’s Koh Lanta Island is recovering rapidly from the powerful tsunami which hit southern Asia on December 26. Koh Lanta, situated off southern Thailand, was spared the devastating destruction and loss of lives experienced by its neighboring islands, Phuket and Ko Phe Phe.
Since the tsunami, the days have been filled with blue skies and sunshine, hard work and optimism for Time for Lime owner, Junie Kovacs, her staff and local volunteers. While the tsunami’s waves claimed much of the contents in the resort’s buildings, leaving sand and mud behind, Kovacs says Time for Lime will be back in operation by February 1.
At Time for Lime, tourists enjoy the unique hands-on experience of learning from a local Thai chef and Kovacs how to prepare Thai and fusion food. The setting is an open-air kitchen and dining area on the beach and backed by a rain forest. The school, open November through June, offers day and evening classes, as well as one- to six-day courses. Individuals and groups are welcome.
But Time for Lime is more than a school. It also caters to tourists visiting the area. The quaint resort features eight cozy bungalows, decorated in a Scandinavian / Thai style. An open-air beach bar is open until 1:00 a.m. Time for Lime also serves breakfast and sandwiches. Nature has added a white-sand beach, warm blue ocean, tropical scenery and beautiful sunsets.
Tourist Dollars Aid in Recovery
"The beaches here have cleaned themselves and most businesses are already back in operation," reports Kovacs, a southern California native who moved with her family to Norway when she was 14. "Koh Lanta didn’t suffer the destruction shown in other areas by the media. I urge tourists not to cancel their plans to visit Thailand. If they’re looking for a paradise island vacation, Koh Lanta is beautiful and open for business.
"What’s more, Thailand and its people need the economic support of tourists now more than ever," she adds. "The residents of Koh Lanta, in particular, depend on tourism, a six-month seasonal business, for their livelihood."

Excerpts from messages of support sent by recent guests of Time for Lime:
I was at your school on Dec. 18 and 19. I was on a boat in the Similan Islands when the wave hit, and luckily our boat was untouched. I was so glad to read on your website that no one was hurt and that you will continue giving classes.
I did several cooking courses in Chiang Mae, and although I took some great classes, Time for Lime was the best by a long shot! We will return as soon as possible, so keep cooking!

I enjoyed the most fantastic cookery course with you in November and am horrified at all the tsunami news. I do hope that you haven't too much damage to your lovely school and hope that you are up and running very soon!
Liz S., London

We were having lunch together last week talking about what a fantastic experience it was learning to cook thai with you and how many hours of enjoyment we've had cooking for friends since then.
I wish we could be there in person to help you rebuild but since we cannot, I will make a donation on your website today to help you.
Daniel B., Sydney, Australia
