January 8 2004--Boncafé Launches Imported Brazilian Instant Coffee
There can be no doubt that Thailand’s acceptance appreciation of coffee has grown significantly in the last few years. Everywhere you turn in Bangkok there is a new coffee shop – even along the highways leading to upcountry. Clearly the most exciting new development this year will be the arrival of Boncafé Brazilian in your favorite supermarket. This new initiative by Thailand’s leading provider of coffee products and coffee brewing equipment is a natural extension of the incredible growth the company has evidenced in the last five years.
Boncafé Brazilian Freeze Dried Gold Instant Coffee will appeal to customers who need convenience and still want to enjoy the very best gourmet coffee. This new Instant coffee is imported by Boncafé directly from Brazil, internationally famous for its coffee products, exclusively for Thai consumers.
For Boncafé, Thailands leading supplier of roast and ground gourmet coffee to the hospitality food and beverage industry this is the company’s first instant coffee product. Previously Boncafé focused on products requiring coffee machines to brew coffee – now Boncafé Brazilian Freeze Dried Gold Instant Coffee will attract a whole new range of customers looking for convenience and the best in gourmet coffee.
First introduced to Thailand in 1992 by Swiss coffee entrepreneur W. E. Hueber, Boncafé has continuously expanded to the market position it enjoys today as a fully integrated Thai coffee company. Until recently the Boncafé strength relied on its ability to offer a complete coffee package to the food services industry – the very latest in brewing technology equipment from Switzerland and Italy; a comprehensive technical after sales service; and a wide range of gourmet coffee products.
Now Boncafé is completing its portfolio of coffee products – not only supplying ground coffee to retail consumers but also Brazilian Freeze Dried Gold Instant Coffee in a variety of convenient retail size packaging.
Boncafé (Thailand) General Manager Khun Maleerat Thanaprachoom said “ I am delighted we have now the full range of gourmet coffee products and the brewing technology to ensure consumers enjoy every cup. Thai coffee drinkers have become very aware of the enjoyment that can be had from a cup of coffee. Nevertheless in terms of international market acceptance, there is still a long way to go.”
“ I have seen figures that indicate Thai per capita consumption of coffee is only 17 cups per year compared to 150 cups per year in the Philippines, 167 cups per year in Malaysia and an overwhelming 377 cups per year in Japan. In global terms Thai coffee consumption is a very low at an average half-kilo per person per year compared to countries like Finland where the average consumption level is an impressive 14-kilo’s per person. So there is little doubt that the growth potential for coffee consumption is considerable. My expectation is that this growth will be most evident in at-home consumption, coffee drinkers having been introduced to quality coffee in restaurants and specialist coffee shops.”
“It is the at-home consumer we are targeting with Brazilian Freeze Dried Gold Instant Coffee. The coffee is 100% pure Brazilian Arabica Coffee. Our ground coffee packs which we introduced to the retail marketplace in 1998 contain 100% Thai coffee beans – Arabica from plantations in Northern Thailand and Robusta from plantations in Southern Thailand. Thailand presently produces 50,000- 60,000 tons per year of Robusta coffee beans, approximately 60% of which is exported. All the locally grown Arabica is processed locally.”
Khun Maleerat said “We have positioned the pricing of Boncafé Brazilian Freeze Dried Gold Instant Coffee to be competitive in supermarkets with alternative brands. However, we believe that customers will recognize that Boncafé, being the only Thai coffee company offering a fully integrated range of coffee products and brewing technology will be best positioned to respond to Thai consumer tastes”.
Boncafé (Thailand) was registered in 1991 and today exports Thai coffee around the world.
